THE SKY IS FALLING

2013
Live performance, 30 days
Invitation to a Beheading, curated by Rachel Howard
Marianne Boesky Gallery, New York

This installation was set in a dark room with a strobe light. The floor was covered in chipped black rubber and large black sequins. Two sheets of metal hung at the back of the space. The metal sheets were used to make the sound effects of thunder played in the space, by recording the sound of the metal being dragged through the city.

In the middle of the space Fornieles stood, dressed in a white shirt. She repetitively unbuttoned her shirt, slipped it from her naked shoulders and in a seamless movement slipped it back on and buttoned it. For 30 days she repeated the action during working hours. Over time the shirt becomes increasingly marked with dirt and sweat. After 30 days, the shirt was left to hang in the space in her place.
